Haggard’s Church Under Investigation

Ted Haggard may no longer be pastor of Colorado’s New Life Church, but that didn’t stop the gay from seeping through its walls, reports the Advocate.

As of January 26, an investigation is expected to get underway after the gay rights group Truth Wins Out, a group dedicated to antigay and “ex-gay” propaganda, requested an investigation into the Colorado Springs church after “hush money” was reported to have been paid by the church to a man that had a longtime affair with Haggard.

According to the AP, the senior pastor at New Life, Brady Boyd, alleged that a man was paid with tuition and counseling to keep quiet about the relationship.

In case you missed ex-pastor of New Life Ted Haggard on Oprah last month, he claimed to be “a heterosexual with issues” after admitting to having sex with male prostitute, Mike Jones. He appeared on the show with his wife standing by his side.

“Authorities should investigate to ensure that this volunteer was not manipulated or coerced into silence,” said Wayne Besen, Truth Wins Out’s executive director, in a press release. “The leadership of New Life has little credibility and should not simply be taken at their word. At a minimum, Boyd should resign for using his position of power to pressure a vulnerable member of his congregation into silence.”
