Because education and desegregation does not mean automatic maturity and control by the Adult ego state of the child ego state when culture does not resolve the psychological need and anxieties of the child ego state.  “Race” , Black and white, was constructed and used by European culture to relieve psychological anxieties of European American people.  African people were selected and used to relieve these psychological anxieties of inferiority by a psychological game called a superiority complex.(Frantz Fanon also discusses this in Black Skin and White Masks). 

Freud limited his analysis of violence of the child against the parent to an Oedipus Complex theory as a result of the sexual orientation of the male child to the mother and competition with the father parent. He was limited in his analysis because of 19th century culture of male dominance which he was still addicted to in the early 20th century. 

But the psychological impulse for killing violence towards the parents is not limited to sexual orientation -and is innate in every child.  Yet,  it is also part of OTHER competing impulses -the seeking of love  and the seeking of dependence. 

African people were selected for the satisfaction of several kinds of needs and as objects for the relief of these impulses. I am still trying to understand why European People specifically needed African people to satisfy their psychological hunger.  I have been seeking to answer the question by Tocqueville, in his research of America in 1830, why white american hunters, in the wilderness of Minnesota, and who never saw Black people, who were not in a competing labor role as in the eastern states, or used as Slaves as in the South, hated Black people?

Building an answer from neo-Freudianism based upon Fanon, it is understandable that one European American need was to select African People for rejection and for destruction-particularly to satisfy the psychological impulse to kill the parent–and since this impulse competes with the other impulses to seek dependence to the parent and to love the parent, the African is used as an object to which is projected  this killing impulse, to be a substitute  object for killing, by being a BLACK THING. 

Killing the Black Thing is excused and justified because the African is “Black”, which , in European culture, represents evil, the devil, unclean, and inferior-all objects, a duty Called by GOD , to be destroyed.

That is why I was upset when Obama, when he made a comment when he was in Selma, last year.  He told John Lewis and the other SNCC veterans, that they were the Moses Generation.   Obama, if you remember, since he was born in the 60’s, said he, that  since he was too young to be with them then, he proclaimed him self of the next generation, THE JOSHUA GENERATION THAT WAS CALLED BY GOD

Dear Cousin.  You, as a professional theologian, should be telling ME what that means-The Joshua Generation. . Secularization may have suppressed the European-American  killing impulse–but the killing impulse, or its symbolism, will always return under psychological stress–such as felt by white teen age boys etc. Or college kids.

 As long as Culture,  continues the language of “white” and “black”–and uses the language of violence as taught in the Bible, AFRICAN PEOPLE  SHALL ALWAYS BE CANANNITES.   WE SHALL ALWAYS BE SYMBOLIC OBJECTS FOUND TO BE HUNG FROM TREES.
