Olympic swimmer to talk about sex abuse in Neb.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Olympic swimmer Margaret Hoelzer will talk about her childhood abuse during an event next week in Lincoln.
The 26-year-old Hoezler will speak at 7 p.m. April 20 at BryanLGH Medical Center. The talk is part of an effort by the hospital and the Child Advocacy Center to raise awareness about sexual abuse of children.
Hoelzer revealed in September in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press that she was sexually abused by a playmate’s father when she was younger. She said she shared her story to make sure what happened to her doesn’t happen to others.
The Huntsville, Ala., native and Auburn University alum won two silver medals and one bronze during the Beijing Olympics this summer.
