Tryst in truck leads to shooting, Brooksville man’s arrest

BROOKSVILLE — Robin Nelson approached the pickup parked in front of his girlfriend’s home and tried to open the locked passenger side door. Then he looked inside and saw his girlfriend having sex with another man, according to a police report.

He beat on the window and the man inside grabbed a pistol, loaded it, then shot him through the window, the report said.

Eddie Guardado, 29, of Brooksville, now faces a charge of aggravated battery in connection with the shooting of Nelson. He was arrested Monday and remained behind bars in lieu of $10,000 bail.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Guardado and the woman, Megan Steele, were parked Sunday in the front of her home in the 2200 block of Pomeroy Road. Guardado and Steele were allegedly having sex in the driver’s seat of his 2007 Dodge Ram.

Nelson tried to open the door, then started beating on the window.

Guardado pushed Steele off his lap, opened the center console and removed an ammunition magazine, according to the report. He then opened the glove compartment, removed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol and loaded the weapon.

Guardado then fired a shot through the window, striking Nelson in the left forearm, the report states. Nelson ran away and Guardado drove away to the Homosassa area, where he hid the truck and replaced the window the next day.

Steele later identified Guardado for authorities. The truck was found with a recently replaced passenger side window and broken glass on the passenger’s side.

Guardado admitted to the shooting during an interview Monday with deputies. He surrendered the weapon to the authorities and identified it as the firearm that he used Sunday.

Deputies seeking man who watched girls

HERNANDO BEACH — Hernando deputies were searching Tuesday for a man accused of watching two girls who were sun tanning themselves behind their home.

The girls, ages 8 and 9, told authorities that about 6 p.m. Sunday, a man in a truck drove behind their home on Eagle Nest Drive and started watching them. When the girls tried to leave, the man allegedly circled them in his truck and tried to prevent them from running toward their home.

The girls were able to get around the truck and saw the man open his door and smile at them, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was described as Hispanic, in his 40s, with a tan complexion. He’s about 5 feet 10 and 150 pounds with short, black hair, an unshaven face and no visible tattoos. The man was supposedly wearing jean shorts and a blue T-shirt.

The girls said the man was driving a turquoise, newer-model pickup truck with two doors and an extended cab.

The man had been seen walking in the area that morning and afternoon, according to the Sheriff’s Office. About three weeks ago, the man allegedly approached other young girls and asked them personal questions.
